Dataverse Web API: a CRM integration guide
Microsoft Dataverse Web API is a web service for applications working with Dataverse data. Based on OData v4, it supports different programming languages and provides an interface for data operations in solutions connecting CRM with other applications.
The role of Web API in CRM integration
Web API does not define a complete business process on its own. Data access, permitted changes and processing workflows need separate design. Microsoft’s technical documentation provides a starting point for using the interface.
Example: synchronizing customer data
If CRM and ERP identify the same customer differently, first define a stable mapping key. Decide which system owns each field and how concurrent changes will be resolved before establishing the connection. This is an example architectural consideration.
Why is error handling part of the design?
Connections can fail or target systems may temporarily stop responding. Define retry rules, duplicate controls and monitoring for failed records. Operations staff should see which record failed and why, and be able to rerun the operation in a controlled way after correction.
What should you check before go-live?
Validate field types, date and time conversions, required information and relationships with sample data. Restrict permissions to necessary operations and compare record counts and sample content. A successful connection alone does not prove correct data migration.
