Dynamics 365 Sales: a guide to CRM and sales management

Sales is a Dynamics 365 application for managing accounts, contacts, leads and opportunities together. It runs on Microsoft Dataverse. Related records support sales activities and the journey from lead to order. Product options and advanced capabilities vary by license.

How does CRM make the sales process visible?

Tracking conversations and opportunities alongside customer information gives the sales team a shared history. Assess the product against your organization’s sales stages.

Customer → Activity → Opportunity → Quote → Order

Example: organizing quote follow-up

If quotes remain in emails and follow-up dates in personal notes, start with a shared rule: every open quote has an owner, a next action and a target date. Review work without follow-up as well as total quote value. This is an example process; configuration and field design are determined during the project.

What should you ask before starting a CRM project?

Do sales stages mean the same thing to everyone? What information qualifies a lead as an opportunity? Are loss reasons recorded? Who approves quotes? Shared answers clarify the process before screen design begins.

How can you measure success?

Set a measurable baseline first. Track quote age, missing customer information and opportunities without next actions. Compare the same measures after implementation, using consistent definitions. Consider seasonality and team changes when interpreting results.
